Post by Voex | Date: 2009-03-21

StyleFolder is a freeware program that can quickly customize looks of a folder straight from Windows right-click context menu, with StyleFolder you can change the folder's icon, use an image as folder background, and change the font color used inside the folder. All customizations are saved into the folder itself. you can even put a folder on the network or on a USB drive and preserve the customization when you access the folder from another computer.
Here are some features of this program:
- Changing folder icon: it can open any file to get icon resources (icon libraries, icon files, executables, etc.)
- Changing folder background: you can use any image file as background to your folder. The image will be tiled in the background so it's better to use patterned texture.
- Changing font color: this would be the font color for the files/folders displayed inside your folder.
- Folder size: because the image/icon you use is saved within the folder itself, you will have empty folders that, once customized, will actually be a few kilobytes in size (corresponding to your image file and/or icons sizes).
- Context menu integration: can be turned on or off.

gMote can hold your hand through making your first gestures if you are a new user, and it supports over 30 different actions. gMote also prompts you when a new gesture you've created matches too closely with an existing gesture, so your gestures stay distinct.
Here are some notes of this program:
- User interface: the dual-pane user interface looks really good. gestures are drawn on the right pane while the left pane lists the different gestures. You can drag and drop shortcuts, executables, and bookmarks into the left pane to convert them into actions.
- Mouse gestures: have to be in one continuous motion.
- Performance: gesture recognition can be a bit slow, at times leaving you may wondering if the program didn' t recognize it.
- No need install: just unzip and run. You will have to add to the windows start folder if you want to the program to start with windows.
